    In October, the green stalks have dried out golden.  The popcorn cobs have dried out also.  Can you think of why we have to wait until the cobs are dried before they are harvested?  As an experiment, take an ear of sweet corn and whack it against a table.    Note what happens to the kernels of corn!  That's one of the reasons we have to wait until they are dry before they go through the harvesting machinery.

    Here is a close-up of a blue popcorn cob on the stalk.  The wind blows a lot of the tops over.   I shucked the cob part way so you could see the corn.

We cannot harvest on this day, the popcorn is too wet!
